The Department of Natural Resources and Mines is seeking your feedback on the draft water plan for the Great Artesian Basin and other regional aquifers.
The draft plan outlines the management of groundwater in Queensland’s Great Artesian Basin and some regional aquifers. It aims to safeguard the water supply for current and future users and protect groundwater flows to springs and watercourses. It defines where and how water may be taken or made available (including the granting of unallocated water), as well as ongoing monitoring and reporting requirements.
Accompanying the plan is a draft water management protocol which outlines how the plan will be implemented, and a draft water entitlement notice which specifies changes to certain water licences.
These documents were developed following extensive community consultation, technical assessments, and stakeholder advice. The technical assessments, fact sheets on specific water management issues, and a Statement of Intent, are available on the DNRM website www.dnrm.qld.gov.au.
The Statement of Intent is designed to help you to provide feedback. It contains information about water management issues; the changes which are proposed in the new plan, and a feedback submission form.
Anyone with an interest in the new plan is welcome to make a submission, either using the form in the Statement of Intent or online at www.Getinvolved.qld.gov.au.
All feedback will be considered in finalising the new plan.
You can email the GAB water plan team on WRPGreatArtesianBasin@dnrm.qld.gov.au or contact your local DNRM office, for more information.
Please see the attached Flyer for my information and the schedule of consultation sessions and venue information.
