South West NRM has a highly effective skills-based Board of Management, which is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the organisation and providing financial oversight. The Board has responsibility for risk and compliance, which is managed through two formal committees for Audit, Risk and Remuneration and the South West Environment Public Fund.
Karen Boyce, GAICD
Chair
Karen Boyce holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Adelaide and is a graduate and current member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She has effectively matched these qualifications to deliver business-focused outcomes leveraging deep technical expertise. Karen has held senior leadership roles in energy and mining companies and most recently managed approvals for Fortescue’s portfolio of renewable energy projects. She has been directly responsible for setting up companies in Australia, project development including all statutory approvals, financing, foundation customer contracts, construction contract development & market intelligence. She has managed teams of environmental and process engineers and has a large network of contacts within industry and government.
Dr Campbell Thomson, GAICD
Deputy Chair
Campbell was raised on a farm in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. He is an agricultural scientist with an honours degree and PhD in crop and pasture physiology, who has nearly three decades of experience in research management. He has extensive skills in finance and risk management, business development and fundraising. Campbell has also owned and operated his own agribusiness producing and selling kangaroo pet meat. Campbell has held board directorships on numerous not-for-profit organisations, including the West Australian Animal Resources Authority, the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre, the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities, and the Population Health Research Network. Campbell has been instrumental in the development of the profession of research management in the Australasian region and has served two terms as President of the Australasian Research Management Society.
Alexis Davy
Board Director
Alexis Davy has a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Western Australia and has worked across a variety of portfolios in the mining and metals industry, including environmental compliance, water, land, air, contaminated sites, tailings, project approvals, and human rights. Most recently, she has worked as the Australian Sustainability Manager and Chair of the Reconciliation Action Plan working group for Alcoa. Alexis manages a primary production enterprise in the southwest and is also a board member of a recognised biosecurity group.
Dr Pete Di Bona
Board Director
Pete Di Bona’s professional career spans 30+ years in the global energy sector with a focus on the commercial and business development of gas and LNG projects. He completed his formal industry role in 2019 but remains active in energy developments as co-founder and Director of a clean energy start-up. He is currently a Non-Executive Director on the Future Energy Export CRC Board and Chair of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee, a graduate of the Australia Institute of Company Directors and past Chair of Lifting Horizons, a not-for-profit charity. Pete has a PhD in Earth Science from Flinders University and completed post-doctoral research at Curtin University.
Peter Rogers, GAICD

Peter Rogers’ professional experience has been in several legal, governance and strategic leadership positions in the not-for-profit, government and university sectors. Currently, Peter is employed with Curtin University – working as a Commercial Contracts Officer and serves as Councillor for Mandurah City Council. Peter has served on the boards of the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, the June O’Connor Centre – Health and Wellbeing, and the Environmental Defender’s Office (WA). He holds undergraduate degrees in Law, Journalism, Politics & International Studies and Public Policy & Management, and is currently enrolled in a Graduate Certificate in Business. His passions include community and economic development, arts, sustainability, law, governance, local government, Indigenous and Aboriginal empowerment and community engagement.
Ann'Elisha Stephen

Ann’Elisha’s professional career includes 20+ years of local and international experience in public affairs, communication, stakeholder management and social performance, across government, corporate, consultancy and not-for-profit sectors. She has a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing and Public Relations) and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Curtin University, is a certified advisor in environmental, social and governance (ESG) (IASE:ISB1) and a member of the Institute of Community Directors Australia. For the last decade Ann’Elisha has held senior consulting roles with a top-tier multi-disciplinary professional services firm, with a focus on partnering with organisations and communities to build social license for major infrastructure, energy and resources projects and operations. She is currently Managing Principal of Blue Tonic, a boutique social advisory business.
Dr Natasha Teakle

Natasha is an experienced researcher, facilitator, grant writer and innovation specialist with a passion for sustainable primary industries and new technology. Tash co-founded AgriStart in 2016 and is currently Managing Director for Innovation Cluster, focusing on agtech and regional innovation. Tash has a background as an Agricultural Scientist, with a PhD in Plant Biology and qualifications in university teaching, research commercialisation, leadership and is a graduate of the AICD. Tash founded iPREP WA in 2014, a unique program involving researchers from all 5 WA universities undertaking projects in industry, which won the 2017 Australian Council of Graduate Research award for industry engagement and was a finalist in the Premier’s Science awards in 2016. She undertakes a range of board, advisory and volunteer roles, including the judging panel for WA Innovator of the Year Awards and was recently selected for the GRDC Western Panel.
