Our South West is an internationally-recognised ‘Global Biodiversity Hotspot’ That means it has an exceptional and rich level of biodiversity. Species that are found nowhere else on earth. But the region also faces a significant level of threat. Day by day the pressures grow due to the triple threat of climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.
From the coastline to the forests, nature here is treasured by locals and visitors alike. Our South West is home to over 8,000 plant species but more than 100 plants and animals are at risk of extinction. This includes iconic mammals like quokkas, numbats, woylies and western ringtail possums, birds like the three species of black-cockatoo, plus frogs, reptiles and many plant species.
What we do
For 25 years, South West NRM has been integral to the conservation and restoration of the natural environment across some four million hectares in South West, Western Australia. We turn environmental ambition into proven, on-ground results as an independent, not-for-profit partner with deep regional expertise and trusted connections.
