The Perennial Question Boyup Brook

Date

April 16, 2025 11:00 am

Can we make perennial pastures work in our South West of WA?

Most farmers love the idea but know how challenging it can be to establish perennials where there is a competitive annual species seedbank.

This is one in a series of events at several locations featuring a Q&A with an experienced farmer and agronomist.

The aim is to equip farmers with an understanding on what’s needed to give perennials the best chance of survival.

We’ll discuss weed management, grazing management and the current species on the market.

And we’ll take a walk through paddocks supporting perennials and hear what lessons were learned.

Our Boyup Brook event is being run in partnership with Western Beef Association.

Q&A Panel

Warren Pensini (Soil Health Champion 2025 – South West Region)

Warren has been adding perennials to his feedbase for the past 15 years. Warren has had successes and failures along the way, and has plenty of learnings that he is willing to share. Some of the species he has used include Phalaris, Tall Fescue, Plantain, Chicory, Cocksfoot and Lucerne.

You can read more about Warren’s journey HERE.
