The Night Calling documentary shines a light on the masked owl and a major threat to its survival.
South West NRM has received $5,000 in funding through the City of Bunbury’s Habitat Bunbury Program to support delivery of a Wildlife-Friendly Neighbourhoods Film Night for the community.
The free community event—happening on 11 February, 2026 at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre’s Cube Theatre—will feature a public screening of the acclaimed documentary Night Calling, followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker and expert environmental speakers.
The evening aims to inspire local residents to make simple changes that help Bunbury’s native wildlife thrive in their own backyards. Displays from local wildlife organisations and a light supper will round out a relaxed, family-friendly night of learning and connection.
South West NRM Chief Executive Officer Dr Manda Page said the grant will help create an engaging event that brings the community together around the important topics of biodiversity.
“We want people to see that creating a wildlife-friendly neighbourhood starts right at home—whether that’s choosing safer alternatives to rodenticides, planting native species, or providing habitat for birds and pollinators,” Dr Page said.
“Collectively, these actions can create vital habitat corridors across Bunbury’s suburbs, helping wildlife move safely between bushland, parks, and backyards.
“Thanks to the City of Bunbury’s support, we can deliver an event that’s both inspiring and practical.”
